Welcome To Our Swim Team Family!
We are excited to have you join us this summer!
PRIORITIES
Our aim is to foster a lifelong love of swimming by providing a nurturing environment where each swimmer can learn and grow to their potential. Lots of excitement is in store this season and we have rules and expectations that are in place to ensure swimmer safety throughout. Helping your child understand the importance of following the instructions of coaches and other adult leaders is the first step to ensuring a safe and fun swim team experience.
GETTING STARTED IN PRACTICE
Practice will quickly become routine and likely something your swimmer will look forward to every day. Please help them set reasonable expectations for the start of the season. Building up endurance in the beginning can be challenging for new swimmers and all swimmers who don't swim year-round. Initially, practice may seem difficult and they will probably come home exhausted (some may be resistant to coming back at first). Please encourage them to hang in there! With each day of practice, it will get easier and you will be amazed at the improvement in their skills and endurance with consistency in the water. Most swimmers acclimate and are eager to come to practice very quickly. Swimming will of course make them stronger for any other activity they participate in by increasing overall fitness.
SWIM MEETS
Williamson County Swim League (WCSL) swim meets provide great opportunities for swimmers to use their skills in an encouraging environment where they can learn through fun competition. At first they may seem chaotic, but with time you will see that swim meets are actually highly organized. Swimmers participate in both individual and relay events. In general, they are placed in groups of similar ability (heats) in each event. You will be provided with all the information you will need to help your child show up to swim meets prepared.
MOTIVATION!
During practice and meets swimmers will receive a great deal of reinforcement and encouragement from coaches. At the end of our Fun Friday practices, coaches will hand out awards for Swimmers of The Week and meet events.
GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
A priority for us each summer is to teach our swimmers the importance of good sportsmanship. If our kids walk away at the end of the season with no other lesson, we truly hope they will understand how important it is to be kind and respectful to everyone… from their teammates and coaches, to their competitors, the officials, and all the wonderful parent volunteers.
VOLUNTEERS
We are a volunteer-run swim team, therefore we ask that all participating families take part in providing well-run meets for our children. A list of jobs ideal for parents new to swim meets is under the New Parent Volunteer tab. You will have opportunities to practice certain roles before meets. Meet job signups will open near the start of the season but we encourage new parents to take the first meet to be available to your swimmers and acclimate to the meets. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need assistance choosing roles.
